Great Irish Poets in Song

brings to you well loved and known poetry by Yeats, Joyce, Kavanagh and Thomas Moore; as well as the colourful and atmospheric poems of

Moira O’Neill, Cathal O’Burne, Seosamh Mac Cathmaoil and 7th – 9th century Irish Poets.

Many composers found inspiration in these texts and set them to haunting melodies-reminiscent of Irish tunes, funny and simply beautiful melodies that enchant and delight.

The setting of Lake Isle of Innisfree was so popular in 1928 that it is even recorded in the annals of Irish Traditional Music, the familiar tunes of the Thomas Moore Songs find an imaginative support in Britten’s accompaniment and the stories of The Fairy Lough, Cuttin’ Rushes and the Sea Wrack bring us to days gone by.

Each poet is given a personal, even funny introduction with interesting bits of his or her life, an evening both for the lover of literature and music alike

This evening gives a taste of Irish life and spirituality past and present

Clara (1838)

Ma Mignonne (Madrigal)

Fire and Lightning (Thomas Morley)

 “Under the Spreading Oak”

…was called into existence to explore the rich but rarely performed repertoire for two equal voices. The artists break with the traditional form of Lieder-recital by including poetry and prose. In this way they present a unique and entertaining programme. It was specifically created for smaller venues, which do not have a piano at their disposal to bring this music to a wider audience. This programme includes music by Fanny Hensel, Thomas Morley, Hendrika Tussenbroek, and Arrangements of traditional and classical airs With poems and prose both well and lesser known.

The music resounds in acapella, occasionally supported by guitar, violin or flute

.Reviews

Rems Zeitung :…these Sopranos complement each other with an impressive ex-change both in high and low tessitura; with much expression and sensitivity they lead in a reflective but also humorous way through the seasons and their refreshing rendering of Bela Barók’s songs show off their high ability.

Oberallgäu – Kultur : …even more artful constructions such as the songs of Bela Bartók are a pure pleasure for the listener, the overall superb artistic level induces awe.

For the End of Time

Terra Omnis is a chamber music ensemble with members from many countries and cultures. Its name is taken from the Latin, translated as The Whole Earth. This phrase is particularly meaningful to the members of Terra Omnis since they hail not only from Northern Ireland but also from Norway, America, and England. The idea of an ensemble made up of members from many countries is unique to our current time and finding the right mix of sounds, music and personalities is a powerful experience — one that Terra Omnis means to share.

We lead the listener on a journey of discovery from well known works to those that are rarely performed and those of women composers that have just recently been rediscovered such as Mel Bonis, Luise Adolpha, Le Beau and Amy Marcy Beach.

Our ensemble offers a great range of sound combinations and diverse musical styles, that range from the Baroque to the present day.

Currently, the ensemble comprises of Craig W. Combs, pianist, Rebekah Durstan, violinist, Elisabeth Goell, Soprano, Roger Vigulf, clarinet, and Tom Collingwood, cello.

Each member has been very successful in their own right as a performer.

As a group they present known and unknown repertoire from all the corners of the earth, from both male and female composers.
